The Scottish quaich is a traditional shallow drinking cup with a handle, typically carved out of wood, spanding from one side to the other. Perhaps this mechanism was invented to imitate the scallop shell from which whiskey were drunk. People drink whiskey one glass after another and one by one which has become a tradition and a symbolism of friendship, fellowship sharing and respect.I researched the original Quaich making process in order to acquire more vivid clues and understanding. Following this, I was inspired by the stirring & fermentation processes, and utilized them to design a new experience which enables the participants to communicate their mutual feeling more directly during the activity of drinking.

The new Quaich system is based on mutual body interaction between the two participants. They stand face to face, one holds the wooden bar, the other holds the bottom of the glass slowly tilting it to aid the partner to drink. This quaich embodies understanding, trust, induction and care which can be felt during its use.
